GSA Awards nomination deadline extended
Help us shine a light on the best of the genetics community by nominating outstanding individuals for the GSA Awards, including the TH Morgan Medal, GSA Medal, Beadle Award, Jones Award for Excellence in Education, and Novitski Prize. Due to the impacts of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, we’ve received requests to extend the nomination deadline by two weeks. The new deadline is October 3.

In a medical setting, durable biofilms can contribute to dangerous antibiotic resistance. Cromie et al. use a yeast model to identify six genes involved in biofilm formation, providing new leads for combatting biofilm-forming pathogens.

Senate spending panel approves $2 billion raise for NIH in 2018
A US Senate subcommittee approved a draft spending bill proposing a $2 billion raise for the National Institutes of Health in the 2018 fiscal year. The bill would also block a White House proposal to slash NIH payments that cover overhead costs.
