Submit your next manuscript to G3: Because your research is important to you, it’s important to us. G3: Genes|Genomes |Genetics offers rapid review and publication of useful results in all areas of genetics. G3 publishes high-quality foundational research, particularly research that generates useful genetic and genomic information such as genome maps, single gene studies, sequence of novel species, genome-wide association and QTL studies, as well as mutant screens and advances in methods and technology.

Policy

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) released a new factsheet to assist applicants in completing the Vertebrate Animal Section (VAS) of grant applications. It highlights five points that must be covered when submitting an NIH application, contract proposal, or cooperative agreement involving the use of vertebrate animals.

Last week, NIH posted a report summarizing comments in response to the request for information to help inform the deliberations of the Biomedical Research Workforce Working Group of the Advisory Committee to the NIH Director. NIH received input from more than 200 commenters who wrote that supply and demand; characteristics of PhD, postdoctoral, and clinical research training; and appeal of a career in biomedical research were the most important issues for NIH to address.

The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) has released its annual report to Congress, Federal Funding for Biomedical & Related Life Sciences Research, FY 2013.  The report makes funding recommendations for five key agencies: the NIH; National Science Foundation (NSF); Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science; Department of Veterans Affairs (VA);  Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agriculture and Food Research Initiative.  It outlines FASEB’s research funding goals for the next fiscal year and will be sent to members of Congress and senior officials in the Obama administration.
