Society Awards

The Genetics Society of America gives six awards, and co-sponsors another award with ASHG and The Gruber Foundation.  The purpose of each of these awards is as listed below.  For more information click the award name below.

• The Thomas Hunt Morgan Medal is for lifetime contributions in the field of genetics.
   

• The Genetics Society of America Medal is for outstanding contributions to the field of genetics in the last 15 years.
   

• George W. Beadle Award is for outstanding contributions to the community of genetics researchers.
   

• Elizabeth W. Jones Award for Excellence in Education is in recognition of significant and sustained impact on genetics education.
   

• The Edward Novitski Prize, funded by the Novitski family and named in honor of Drosophila geneticist Edward Novitski (1918-2006), is designed to recognize an extraordinary level of creativity and intellectual ingenuity in solving significant problems in genetics research.

• The Rosalind Franklin Young Investigator Award, funded by The Gruber Foundation and named in honor of British scientist Rosalind Franklin, is a career development research award intended to inspire and support new generations of women in the field of genetics.

• The GSA Excellence in Research Journalism Award is designed to honor journalists who provide outstanding coverage of basic genetic research including studies of model organisms that link to human biology.
