Poster Guidelines

All posters will be displayed in the Fireside Pavillion under the Fred Farr Forum. Please set up your poster immediately after lunch the day of your poster session.  Two authors will share a 4’ x 8’ poster board. Each author will have a net useable space of 3’ 8” (111.8cm) high x 3’ 8” (111.8cm) wide. Posters should be designed in a portrait/vertical format.

All posters will be up for one day. Authors of ODD numbered posters should be at their board from 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm and authors of even numbered posters should be at the board from 8:30 pm – 9:30 pm. All presenters should remove their abstracts at the end of their poster session. Authors will present according to the following schedule:

All presenters should remove their abstracts at the end of their poster session. After that time, remaining posters will be removed and may be lost or thrown away. The meeting does not take responsibility for posters that are not removed on time.

Posters may be mounted on thin poster paper or cardboard and attached to the poster board with pushpins. Do not mount your poster on heavy or thick backing, as it may be difficult to fasten to the board. Do not write or paint on the board.

Guidelines for Preparing Effective Posters

  • Authors can include a picture of themselves to facilitate registrants finding them to discuss their work after the day of their presentation.
  • Posters should be designed to summarize current research in graphic forms: charts, tables, graphs, pictures, etc.  Simple use of color can add effective emphasis.
  • Make the title large enough to be read easily from a reasonable distance (~ 4 feet).
  • Use a font size that can be read easily at a distance.  Using a font that is too small is the single most common error in poster preparation.  If there's not enough space to fit all the text, shorten the text.
  • Details of methodology should be brief and should be placed at the end of the legend.  Many successful posters provide a bulleted list of conclusions and questions raised.
  • Simple use of color can add effective emphasis.

The poster schedule may not be altered.  If there is a conflict in presentation times, you must cancel your presentation or change presenters.  Please notify Anne Marie Mahoney, at mahoney@genetics-gsa.org or (301) 634-7039 by March 11, 2015 with any cancellations.
