Poster Guidelines

All posters will be displayed during the entire meeting in the HUB, Grand Ballroom. Authors may begin posting their presentations on Tuesday, July 29 at 6:00 pm. There will be two posters on one 4 ft. x 8 ft. poster board. Each poster author will be assigned to share a poster board. Each author will have a net useable space that measures 3’8” (111.8 cm) high x 3’8” (111.8 cm) wide. Posters should be designed in a portrait/vertical format.

There will be three nights of poster sessions.  Authors will present according to the following schedule:

All posters should be in place by 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening.  The GSA Administrative Office staff, University of Washington staff and the personnel taking down the boards will not be responsible for posters left on boards by the authors. 

Posters may be mounted on thin poster paper or cardboard and attached to the poster board with pushpins. Do not mount your poster on heavy or thick backing, as it may be difficult to fasten to the board. Do not write or paint on the board.

Guidelines for Preparing Effective Posters

A great poster is readable, legible, well organized and succint.

• Authors can include a picture of themselves to facilitate registrants finding them to discuss their work after the day of their presentation.
• Posters should be designed to summarize current research in graphic forms: charts, tables, graphs, pictures, etc.  Simple use of color can add effective emphasis.
• Make the title large enough to be read easily from a reasonable distance (~ 4 feet).
• Use a type size that can be read easily at a distance.  Using a font that is too small is the single most common error in poster preparation!  If there's not enough space to fit all the text, shorten the text.
• Details of methodology should be brief and should be placed at the end of the legend.  Many successful posters provide a bulleted list of conclusions and questions raised. 
• Simple use of color can add effective emphasis.
• Some references should be provided, but they need not be as extensive as those in papers.     
• Audiovisual equipment is not permitted in the poster board area.
