IMPORTANT NOTE: Registration fees do not include accommodations or meals except the final dinner. Please make a housing reservation at the University of Washington housing website or one of the hotels.

 

When considering the cost/benefit of registering, remember that there is no more effective tool for relationship building, brainstorming and networking than face-to-face meetings.

Guests of meeting registrants do not need to register but they do need to make a housing reservation to stay in on-campus housing.

The attendee list is now available.

 

New this year: after abstract assignments have been made, you will be able to click on an attendee's name and if they are presenting a talk or poster at the meeting, the program number and title of the talk will be listed.


 

Advance Registration and Payment Options

 

You may register for the meeting online with a credit card or mail in an early registration form for payment by check. The registration form will only be processed if accompanied by payment. Payment may be made by: credit card or a check drawn on a U.S. bank, payable to the Genetics Society of America. Keep a copy for your records. 

Online: The online registration will open on March 28, 2014. Your registration receipt and confirmation will be automatically emailed to you after a successful submission. The Genetics Society of America accepts the following credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.

 

Mail: Complete the form online, print it out and mail the form with payment to the GSA office. Send the form with credit card information or a check drawn on a US bank to the following address: YGM Registration, Genetics Society of America, 9650 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD  20814. Checks should be made payable to the Genetics Society of America (GSA). GSA does not accept purchase orders for registration payments.

 

After June 26, 2014 you must register online at the higher rates or at the meeting.

 


 

Meeting T-Shirts

 

Meeting t-shirts will be available for purchase on the online registration form. The shirts will be $10 and may be picked up when attendees register at the meeting. There will be a limited amount available for purchase at the meeting. 

 


Optional Tours

 

To take advantage of all that Seattle has to offer, the following optional tours are available on Thursday, July 31. Registrants can sign up online. If payment for tours needs to be done seperately from registration please contact mahoney@genetics-gsa.org to arrange payment.

 

 Chihuly Gardens and Glass, Space Needle and Monorail

Your tour begins with access to the breathtaking exhibits at Chihuly Gardens and Glass. Walls of the Exhibition offer a comprehensive collection of Dale Chihuly's significant series of work. The artworks demonstrate how he pushed the boundaries of glass as an art medium in concept, execution and presentation. The next stop is at the most famous piece of iconography in Seattle - The Space Needle. Guests will be taken to the Observation Deck at 520' for an unrivaled 360 degree view of Seattle and the surrounding PUget Sound region. The return trip is via the Monorail. A short, non-stop, 90 second ride from Seattle Center to Downtown is a great way to travel!

Kayaking on Lake Union

Welcome to sea kayaking on Seattle's Lake Union where you can combine paddling with beautiful city views. Pick up your kayak right on the water before paddling around the beautiful Seattle waterways. From the docks on Lake Union, you can paddle to Lake Washington, where you can have over 8 miles of paddling.

 

Your group will be led by a private guide from the Northwest Outdoor Center. The outing starts with a safety overview and orientation on how to communicate with the guides once on the water. Double-seated kayaks will be provided for this group in order to keep everyone close together.

 

The route will include an up close look at the Sleepless in Seattle house, Gasworks Park, Lake Union floating home communities and into Portage Bay which puts you in the shadow of the University of Washington campus. Depending on the experience of the participants and the amount of boat traffic on this day, the guides may also take the group through the Montlake Cut and into Lake Washington.

Cancellations

 

A $50 handling fee will be charged for all meeting advance registration cancellations. Cancellation requests must be sent to mahoney@genetics-gsa.org. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received after June 26, 2014.  Canceling your meeting registration does not cancel your housing. Please contact the university or hotel directly to cancel your housing.

Financial Assistance

 

Yeast Genetics Meeting Travel Awards


The Yeast Genetics Meeting gives travel awards to graduate students and postdocs who are presenting authors.

 

Application Deadline for receipt: Deadline has passed.

 

Only individuals who would otherwise be unable to attend the meeting will be considered for these limited funds. Please make every effort to secure your own funding and leave the meeting funds to the needy. Presenting authors are given first priority when determining financial aid. Describe your need in the online financial aid application. You are not guaranteed that you will receive the amount you ask for on the application.   No more than three people from the same lab will be eligible for financial aid.  Financial aid checks will be disbursed at the registration desk.

 

 


 

Microphone Runners
 

The YGM is soliciting 18 graduate students to handle the microphones during the question and answer periods at the platform sessions and symposia. Duties will include carrying a microphone to individuals who wish to ask questions, turning on the microphone for them at the appropriate time, and then turning off the microphone. 

A stipend of $120 will be provided in return for staffing five 90-minute sessions throughout the meeting.   

 

To qualify for this position, you must be a graduate student and attend the entire meeting. Submit applications via

  • First and Last Name

  • E-mail address

  • Your P.I.

  • Year in School

  • Include the following statement: I agree to staff five 90-minute sessions as a microphone runner.

The deadline for receipt of applications is April 24, 2014. If more than 18 students apply, the first 18 applications received will be accepted. Microphone runners will be notified of their assigned sessions by June 3, 2014.

 


 

GSA DeLill Nasser Award

for Professional Development in Genetics
 

Application Deadline: Deadline has passed.

 

This award is named for long-time GSA member and National Science Foundation Program Director in Eukaryotic Genetics, DeLill Nasser. It is given in recognition of the critical role she played in research and for her love of genetics. The award is for graduate students and postdoctoral trainees, to support travel costs for young geneticists to attend national and international meetings and enroll in laboratory courses.  Visit the award website for more information and to apply.

 


 

GSA Undergraduate Travel Award

GSA Undergraduate Travel Awards are available to promote excellence in undergraduate research and education.  This award will provide travel support funds to undergraduate members of GSA who will be presenting research findings at a GSA-sponsored conference.  

 


 

FASEB-MARC Travel Awards
 

Deadline for receipt of Application: May 16, 2014

 

The FASEB MARC Program provides funding for travel awards to support the participation of faculty/mentors, students, post-baccalaureates, postdoctoral fellows, and students from minority institutions and historically black colleges and universities. Underrepresented minority faculty, students, and postdoctoral fellows from majority institutions are also eligible to apply for the travel awards. The travel awards are funded up to $1,850 each for travel-related expenses and for meeting registration. Travel awards are provided as reimbursements after the meeting.

 

FASEB MARC travel awards are processed as reimbursements to the award recipients. An award recipient will be required to pay his/her meeting and travel-related expenses first and then request reimbursement from the FASEB MARC Program Office after completion of the meeting/conference.
